THE POSITION

Wellington's healthcare team manages more than $60 billion in dedicated long-only and long/short healthcare assets. We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to build and lead a healthcare long/short equity hedge fund. He/she should bring a proven track record managing healthcare equities with a low net/market neutral process. The strategy will be part of Wellington's multi-sector equity hedge fund and have the ability to be a stand-alone product. This is a perfect opportunity for an investor looking to grow and lead an independent business with the stability, resources and institutional support of our platform.

Additional skills and characteristics required for the role include:
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build a franchise within a highly integrated, collaborative team of healthcare sector experts.
  • Expertise in portfolio construction/risk management/shorting skillset, which is the emphasis over scientific depth (with multiple PhDs within existing team).
  • Investment leadership and desire to serve in a mentor role to help develop long/short skillset of other team members.
  • Strong personal presence, client-facing skills, and willingness to market.
  • Strong healthcare sector knowledge with Medtech/services expertise preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of five years of healthcare equity portfolio management experience with an attributable hedge fund or long/short track record on a material capital base.
  • Strong, well-articulated investment philosophy and process supported by rigorous analysis.
  • A track record as a risk taker that demonstrates clear investment skill.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex investment ideas and strategies to internal peers and external clients.
  • Excellent academic credentials, MBA/CFA/CAIA or advanced degree are additive though not required.
LOCATION

The Portfolio Manager will be based in Wellington's Global Headquarters in Boston, MA or the New York office, which will have a grand opening in April 2023.

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:
USD 100,000 - 225,000
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.

Base salary is only one component of Wellington's total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible. In addition, we offer a comprehensive and high value benefit package to meet the unique needs of our employees and their families.
