Fund Administration Legal: Department Head (Managing Director and Managing Counsel)

The department head will generally have at least twenty-five years of experience in the financial services industry, and be expert in Investment Company Act of 1940 issues. The department head bears ultimate responsibility for the delivery and client satisfaction of quality legal administration services to State Street's clients.

The following are specific responsibilities of the department head:

  • Communicate to staff regularly through staff meetings, attorney meetings and/or one-on-one meetings
  • Complete performance review and total compensation and other human resources processes in a timely manner
  • Participate in department budget process
  • Respond to clients or client service personnel when issues arise
  • Define and evolve the service model
  • Drive department standard operating procedures, checklists and matrices
  • Assist with RFPs and attend sales presentations

In addition, the department head must possess a highly developed understanding of not only the legal issues but also the business, distribution, marketing and structural issues facing mutual fund clients.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements.

What you will be responsible for

  • Keeping current with legal developments, coordinating communication of such developments to staff and clients and proactively applying such developments to clients' situations
  • Serving as a mentor or developer of less experienced colleagues
  • Leading resolution of complex client or internal legal issues; issues with potential liability to State Street and "sticky" client service issues; brings such issues to the attention of senior management; and resolving such issues with input from more senior management
  • Providing support to sales professionals, financial administration personnel, making presentations to potential clients, researching and preparing memoranda on general industry issues not related to specific clients and/or participating in seminars and conferences on industry-related topics
  • Providing effective legal support to other fund administration teams on contractual, operational, compliance and other issues
  • Managing responsibility for other attorneys

Salary Range:
$200,000 - $275,000 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
