Who we are looking for
Mercatus is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a high performing team of engineers to develop solutions to shape the future of private markets investment data management. The Director of Engineering will partner with product owners, executive leaders, and engineers to execute roadmaps, design and implement cutting edge technology solutions, and drive modern engineering principles in accordance with our private market's strategy and leading cloud based SaaS fundamentals. What you will be responsible for
As Director of Engineering, you will
  • Work closely with our product and engineering teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support data driven technical solutions in full-stack development tools and technologies
  • Lead a team of developers with deep experience in data engineering, machine learning, distributed microservices, and full stack systems
  • Continuing to recruit, hire, and develop team members. Proactive recruiting to plan for coming needs.
  • Work with data architecture teams to build curated and semantic data layers that bring to bear the power of our data and cloud infrastructure
  • Defining, refining, and communicating the technical mission and roadmap to empower and build team and partner support and alignment
  • Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client / partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the team
  • Defining, evaluating, and communicating results against acceptance criteria
  • Measuring performance against established objectives and KPI's that deliver on agreed upon business, technology, and people results
  • Collaborating and coordinating with Scrum Masters to grow capacity and capability and enabling team member growth, development and learning through insight sharing and mentoring activities
  • Making informed trade-off decisions to strike the right balance between quality, cost, and timelines

Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of engineering/development experience
  • Bachelor's degree (or above) in either Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Mathematics or Finance related field
  • Expertise leading a team of engineers on technical delivery of data solutions at enterprise scale, with focus on implementation
  • Understanding of modern core development operations and infrastructure as code CI/CD processes for application platform deployment and management
  • Experience managing full-stack sprint teams with emphasis on service-oriented architectures, web technologies, and reactive architectures
  • Demonstrated ability in developing or supporting analytics, insights through data
  • Expert knowledge and experience in major data areas such as data management, data integration (ETL/ELT), and data visualization
  • Experience working with cloud data providers such as Snowflake and cloud infrastructure service providers such as AWS and Azure
  • Strong background working with and leading implementation of universal semantic layers and related tooling (AtScale, Kyligence, Denodo)
  • You take a data-focused approach to understanding customer needs, translate strategic objectives into action, and prioritize to improve value delivered
  • You grasp sophisticated product features and assist with dependency analysis and scoping
  • You have a strong focus on execution and identify, communicate and remove impediments to progress
  • You are capable of leading, influencing, and motivating colleagues without formal authority, and have a track record of building successful teams
  • You continuously improve and encourage an agile way of working
  • You are intellectually curious and model a culture of continuous learning, mentoring, and coaching
  • You have or are committed to developing a balance of technology and non-technology skills in order to fully appreciate the broad needs of our customers
  • Jira experience required
  • Experience with application of ML/NLP/AI strategies is a plus
  • Experience in fintech and/or private markets is a plus
Additional requirements
  • Ability to travel as required for client engagements (-20%), including internationally

Salary Range:
$140,000 - $222,500 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
