Investment Operations Solutions (Middle Office) Overview

At BNY Mellon, our data-centric service model helps provide clients with clean, scrubbed information to support the investment process, from post-trade execution to client communications. Our Investment Operations solution is a full lifecycle of investment activities through an integrated data, technology and operations model that supports all product types. Offering a full spectrum of services: trade support, derivatives and collateral management, bank loan support, investment book of record (IBOR), investment performance, and data management.

The Trade Support team is the first touch point for our clients' investment activity. We work hand and hand with our investment manager clients, internal teams, custodians, and brokers to capture, confirm, communicate, and settle executed trade activity. Our team provides analytical services to ensure all the activity is processed timely and accurately to meet client and market deadlines.

Middle Office Role Overview

Under minimal supervision, performs moderately complex functions supporting trading, client services, and accounting activities including trade communication, processing, and settlement. Reviews high volumes of client trade activity where established procedures are followed. Leverages some knowledge of processes of procedures to confirm findings and analyses unique scenarios to determine solutions for more complex issues.

Role-Specific Responsibilities
  • Trade life-cycle management - using systematic tools to capture executed trades (i.e Equity, Fixed Income, FX, and derivatives products) from the clients and communicate/confirm this activity to the 'street': custodians, brokers, and other interested parties
  • Research exceptions to ensure all activity is accurately processed and delivered by market deadlines
  • Trade settlement - analyze failed trades and work with all parties to quickly resolve trade settlement issues
  • Get involved on projects: with clients as their investment strategies shift and internally to increase efficiency and decrease risk
  • Management of reference & static data

Preferred Qualifications
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of Excel.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Remain organized and be able to handle multiple priorities
  • Work independently but also be a helpful teammate.
  • Comfortable asking questions to gain understanding on any area where understanding is limited.
  • Research, Reporting and Reconciliation

Standard Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for processing, monitoring, researching and analyzing transactions and resolving non-complex inquiries.
  • May coordinate with both internal stakeholders and external stakeholders and/or clients to gather, disseminate, and resolve basic information about transactions.
  • With guidance, conducts research to gather information on non-complex transactions and data-related, straightforward inquiries.
  • Responsible for reconciliations to third parties (cash, asset, trade matching, and market value) and analysis, break assignment and resolution of reconciliation breaks and failing trades.
  • Responsible for or facilitating the maintenance of trade static data, trade enrichment, and trade exception handling and market claims.
  • Also responsible for daily portfolio valuation processes and engages in exception processing for breaks.
  • May also participate in monthly accounting close processes, cash projection reports, cash management support, monthly end-client statement delivery, and ad hoc reporting.
  • Focus is on gaining middle office experiences.
  • Escalates complex transactions to senior team members.
  • Collaborates with limited group of internal and external stakeholders to deliver recommendations to basic inquiries.
  • Interacts with clients in answering basic questions and resolving straightforward inquiries. No direct reports. Contributes to the achievement of team objectives.

Bachelors degree in finance or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 1-4 years of total relevant work experience preferred.
