Overview

Company Overview:

The Newton Investment Management Group describes a group of affiliated companies that provide investment advisory services under the brand name 'Newton' or 'Newton Investment Management'. Those companies are Newton Investment Management Ltd, registered in the UK, and Newton Investment Management North America LLC, registered in the US, and both are indirect subsidiaries of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation ('BNY Mellon').

Our purpose is to improve people's lives through active, thematic and engaged investment which strives to deliver attractive outcomes to our clients and helps foster a healthy and vibrant world for all.

Job Purpose

The Newton Responsible Investment team sits within the broader investment team. The team has a broad role across commercial, investment and reporting functions within the business and is involved in representing the firm externally on RI related issues, conducting research that supports analysts and fund manager work and designing investment philosophy that supports product development. The "merging" of Mellon and Newton means that there is no RI presence in Boston and we would like to change that to help with the integration of the investment processes. We would also like this person to be a familiar face who understands the processes across the different organisations, rather than being a fresh hire. This will mean organisational knowledge and relationships won't need to be built from scratch.
  • Research: Support analysts and portfolio managers independently by answering queries on ESG issues and sustainable portfolio management.
  • Education: Can lead sections of analyst and portfolio management education on ESG and sustainability issues.
  • Research: Pro-actively conduct research on emerging or complex ESG topics.
  • Engagement: Can independently and competently conduct engagement with external stakeholders to better understand risks and opportunities related to ESG and sustainability.
  • Commercial: Can independently and competently represent the firm at client meetings and conferences.
  • Management: Support the design and implementation of internal responsible investment processes related to philosophy, strategy, technology and reporting.
  • Relationships and collaboration: Through the creation of high-quality work and effective communication build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the business.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

MBA and/or CFA preferred.

Experience in working with analysts and fund managers to identify, analyse and communicate ESG and sustainability issues and their relevance to client objectives.

4 years or more of investment experience preferred.
