Job Title: Emerging Market Macro Strategist, State Street Global Markets
Location: US-Boston
Full/Part Time: Full FTE
Regular/Temporary: Regular
Reporting to: Head of North American Macro Strategy

Job Description
1). Provide macroeconomic commentary incorporating State Street Global Market's proprietary measures of investor behavior, risk and inflation indicators with specific focus on Emerging Markets in general and LatAm in particular. The candidate will be expected to write daily thought pieces, contribute to the portfolio of recommended asset allocation ideas and to produce longer-term research insights. Assist the strategy team with all facets of research product generation, with a specific focus on EM foreign exchange and fixed income markets. Tasks would include: continual monitoring of relevant markets and filtering of pertinent themes and opportunities; constructing and utilizing value analysis and market monitoring tools used in the generation of trading strategies and economic analysis; the generation and construction of documents and presentation materials.

2). Work with team members globally, as well as quantitative analysts from State Street Associates to perform analysis of our proprietary indicators and to integrate them with risk management techniques and fundamental indicators, such as valuation and carry signals.
3). Present the research to clients and work with the sales team to provide ongoing coverage to large hedge fund, institutional and central bank clients. This aspect will include possibly frequent travel. The N. American team conducts more than 300 client meetings a year. Represent State Street Global Markets Research at conferences and seminars where appropriate. Communicate the research within State Street, in particular to the global sales and trading teams. The candidate would be expected to be the key voice for EM views in the North American team and the key EM contact for clients in this time zone.
Skill set
1). Candidate should be a self-driven, energetic and creative thinker with a strong curiosity about economics, the financial markets and the interactions of the relevant variables therein. Candidate should be able to develop a broad understanding of economic and political factors that impact on Emerging Markets specifically and financial markets more generally
2). Proven ability to work within a team. The Research team is diverse both geographically and in terms of the backgrounds of its members. The candidate would be expected to work particularly closely with EM strategists based in Hong Kong and London. The candidate must be able to manage numerous competing requests and prioritize accordingly. To this end, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strict attention to detail is required.
3). Strong written communication skills. One of the core functions is the generation and co-ordination of written research, so the ability to write clear, concise, and digestible research is critical. These include writing short, succinct, market views for daily publications and more comprehensive research analysis for weekly and monthly publications in EM.
4). Strong Presentation skills. The individual should be capable of presenting research to a wide variety of financial professionals (analysts, portfolio managers, CIO's).
5). An excellent fundamental understanding of the Foreign Exchange Market. The candidate should be familiar with various methodologies (valuation, carry, event driven, etc...) used in different trading styles.
6). Strong quantitative skills: The candidate should be highly numerate with a strong familiarity with statistical techniques. The candidate should be able to develop State Street Global Markets' proprietary flow indicators, price metrics and PriceStats inflation indicators and to interpret these indicators in terms of their impact on Emerging Markets both internally to sales/trading and externally to clients. Experience working with large data sets would be an advantage.

Experience
The candidate is likely to have at least 3 years of experience.
Prior positions in FX, fixed income and/or commodities markets and a demonstrable understanding of their interaction with currency markets would contribute to a candidate's standing for this position.
Education
Strong academic background in economics or finance. Postgraduate preferable.
