POSITION TITLE : Climate Physical Risk Analyst

DUTIES : Work as part of the Sustainable Investment Team, working closely with our Director of Climate Research. Aid in the collaboration between Wellington Management and Woodwell Climate Research Centers (WCRC) to integrate climate science and asset management. Conduct climate research on natural hazards and integrate those risks into security prices, investment risks and opportunities. Create and utilize climate tools to help investors better understand how and where climate change may impact global capital markets. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Lead and manage research relationship with Woodwell Climate Research Center including execution of annual research agenda
  • Manage climate finance projects directly with Emerging Market Debt, Municipal Bonds and Real Estate teams
  • Develop and enhance geospatial tools that integrate climate science and financial markets in user friendly applications
  • Manage climate partnership relationships with 3 global multibillion asset owners on climate and finance findings
  • Lead and direct projects and scientific & financial research on topics like transition fuels, biodiversity, carbon capture and flood insurance, inclusive of junior staff leadership on projects
  • Present at internal Organizational wide investor sessions on climate change and security impacts
  • Present to sophisticated global institutional clients on climate and financial findings
REQUIREMENTS : Requires a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a directly related quantitative field plus two (2) years of experience in climate research, including developing climate modelling and performing climate data interpretation for financial markets.

Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):
  • Coding and building analytical tools and frameworks that connect atmospheric climate models with capital market metrics
  • Experience with statistical inference and data science, utilizing machine learning or natural language processing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern programming languages, including Python
  • Probability, statistics, time-series and cross sectional analysis, including very large data sets.
Travel requirement: 10-15% international and domestic travel to meet with clients and government officials, and attend conferences
