What you will be responsible for: The Senior Tax Analyst will report to the Director of Domestic Tax and work collaboratively with the Tax Directors, Tax Managers, and extended finance team. Position responsibilities will include preparation of federal and state tax provisions as well as preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for MFS domestic operating companies. You will support audits by federal and state examiners and research, interpret and analyze impacts of tax law changes and make recommendations to implement changes.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns, extensions, and quarterly estimated tax payments.
  • Assist with aspects of ASC 740 and IAS12 Accounting for Income Taxes including;
    • Calculating the year-end U.S. income tax provision and related journal entries;
    • Calculating effective tax rate and preparing rate reconciliations;
    • Calculating and tracking tax exposures and developing documentation to support income tax positions taken for financial statement purposes and related reserves recorded for uncertain tax positions;
    • Return-to-provision calculations; and
    • Preparing current and deferred tax reconciliations and analysis of tax general ledger accounts

  • Perform tax research using primary sources of law (IRS Code, regulations, case law, etc.) and editorial materials or secondary sources (Checkpoint, BNA portfolios, etc.) for issues affecting the MFS and its subsidiaries and adequately communicates conclusions orally and/or in writing.
  • Compose and review the tax footnote disclosures for MFS consolidated and subsidiary financial statements.
  • Prepare procedures that are reviewed by tax directors/managers, that outline the tax compliance policy for MFS and its subsidiaries, ensuring the most efficient and effective way for such procedures to be carried out.
  • Apply new tax rules, regulations, and procedures as they impact MFS and its subsidiaries as well as the application of current tax rules to new investment products.
  • Review and update compliance calendar to ensure that adequate tax filings are made in a timely manner.
  • Analyze appropriate general ledger accounts to provide roll forward and reconciliation of tax accounts and to identify items of income/expense that would require a tax treatment different than book (e.g., depreciation of fixed assets).
  • Assist in preparation of responses to IRS and/or state auditor requests in connection with compliance audits.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education. Preferably possess, or pursuing a JD, CPA and/or MST.
  • Minimum of 4-7 years' tax-specific experience in public accounting, corporate tax department, or other equivalent experience.
  • Strong business writing skills and strong oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with OneSource Income Tax Compliance application and Peoplesoft General Ledger application preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact in a positive manner with Corporate Finance employees as well as other MFS departments and outside advisors, preparers, and auditors.
