The Associate Director, Global Investment Risk and Analytics (Associate Director) position is part of the Global Risk & Analytics (GRA) team within Wellington's Investment Science (iSci) Department. Other key functions within iSci are Execution Research Analytics (XRA), Quantitative Investment Group (QIG), Global Quantitative Research (GQR) and Investment Data Science (IDS). GRA oversees global investment risk for Wellington Management, including: investment risk oversight, security analytics and risk neutral valuation, risk modeling, portfolio architecture, and pension and insurance analytics across our broad multi-asset, hedge fund, equity, fixed income and research strategies. The team manages an ambitious portfolio of quantitative research and development across risk modeling, security analytics, portfolio optimization and construction, and strategic asset allocation. The team uses that work in direct engagements with investment teams but also importantly the output of that modeling work is delivered through GUI's and software tools, and GRA works in close partnership with IT team to specify and oversee the development of those tools.

We are seeking an Associate Director to join the GRA and Investment Science (iSci) leadership teams. As a senior manager, the Associate Director will: oversee and coordinate the complex technical implementation of the risk and analytics strategic plan, contribute to the development of the strategic vision for our capabilities, and help align the vision with the needs of investors and other stakeholders in quantitative analytics and risk. The Associate Director will partner closely with Director, Global Risk & Analytics, the GRA team broadly, and technology partners to inform the vision and guide the implementation of the multi-year risk ecosystem development. The position is based in the US and will report to the Director of Global Risk & Analytics.

The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of quantitative risk and investing, strong management and project management skills, experience and professional gravitas commensurate with dealing with senior investors, and the ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team-oriented environment. S/he will have demonstrable problem-solving skills and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. It is critical that the ideal candidate be an empathetic leader with the ability and credibility to build trust-based relationships with iSci and IT professionals.


Responsibilities for this position will include the following:

• Work with the Director of Global Risk & Analytics to develop, manage and communicate a complex, technical buildout of world-class risk & analytics capabilities;
• Partner with the Investment Platform Technology team to manage the complex integration of multiple workstreams to ensure the delivery of risk and analytics, infrastructure and delivery;
• Partner with members of GRA, including investment risk managers, portfolio construction and risk strategists, and quant strategists to articulate a strategic vision for quantitative models and capabilities for risk, portfolio construction, and security analytics and manage the prioritization and delivery of enhancements needed to support their work with investors;
• Work with investors directly to understand their needs in relation to the work being done by GRA; drive adoption of the tools among investors by ensuring the work done by GRA is aligned with investors' needs and ensuring investors understand the strategy and path of implementation;
• Communicate the vision and updates on advances in the risk ecosystem to relevant stakeholders.

Key qualifications and characteristics include:

• 10+ years of relevant professional and leadership experience, including a track record of developing and deploying strategies on a global scale;
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints and mobilize/influence across all levels of the organization, including senior leaders;
• Credibility to engage productively with science and investment professionals, including ability to constructively challenge status quo and solve problems;
• Ability to form the vision needed to drive the translation of conceptual financial models into abstracted forms compatible with software to be used by non-specialists;
• Experience implementing and managing the implementation of quantitative financial models in scalable systems used by non-quantitative staff in conjunction with professional software developers;
• Experience working with top tier quantitative finance professionals as a peer and the ability to understand and form judgments about independent quantitative models and research;
• Global mindset and orientation towards advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the work environment;
• Comfort and/or prior experience coding and interacting with database models and high level computational environments; ability to provide precise technical specifications to developers;
• Ability to navigate stressful situations with poise; focused on being a calming presence, active listener and pragmatic problem solver;
• Superior organizational skills with a process and results orientation, the ability to manage, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously is necessary;
• Strong academic credentials; MBA and/or advanced degree is preferred. CFA/CAIA designations are relevant though not required.
