What you will be responsible for: BASIC PURPOSE:

MFS is recruiting a unique hybrid role within across the Corporate Actions and Investment Risk Monitoring teams. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to add value to 2 groups.

The Corporate Actions and Investment Risk Monitoring (IRM) teams have distinct roles within the Global Technology & Investment Operations The Corporate Actions team is responsible for the monitoring, research, risk management, and processing of all corporate actions that affect securities held at MFS. The IRM team is responsible for monitoring and reporting on allocation, rating change, Policy violations, as well as monitoring and reporting on compliance with Internal Limits and other key risk areas.

Through interactions with Portfolio Management, Trading, Research, Legal, Compliance, Fund Treasury, and Custodian Banks, the Senior Corporate Action Specialist is responsible for processing of global and domestic corporate actions in the MFS trading and accounting systems and monitoring for adherence with the MFS Internal Limits and other key risk areas.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Corporate Actions Using professional judgment and in-depth knowledge of investment operations and MFS systems:
  • Process assigned complex and routine corporate actions (e.g., stock splits, mergers, spin-offs, rights offering, exchanges, dividends, etc.) in the accounting and trading systems for all fixed income and equity securities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Understand, analyze, and communicate terms and conditions of domestic and international mandatory and voluntary corporate action events with the relevant investment teams and business partners (e.g., Legal & Compliance department) to ensure corporate action notices are responded to within established timeframes, mandatory actions are processed on their respective effective dates and in accordance with departmental procedures, while mitigating the risks associated with each event type.
  • Communicate and verify with various custodian banks to ensure integrity and timely receipt of corporate action notices. Obtain third party vendors (e.g., Bloomberg) data for research and validation of corporate action information such as name and identifier changes.
  • Maintain restrictions in equity and fixed income trading systems to mitigate the risk of trade errors associated with corporate action events. Communicate restriction information to all relevant business partners.
  • Advise asset reconcilement team regarding any corporate action related discrepancies. Escalate issues to supervisor/manager where necessary.
  • Provide quality control for proxy votes cast on external vendor websites (e.g., ISS & Glass Lewis) by MFS's proxy voting and corporate governance team while ensuring no conflict of interests arise within internal Code of Ethics policies.

Investment Risk Monitoring Using professional judgment and in depth knowledge of investment operations and compliance:
  • Monitor, report, and propose resolution to compliance issues and/or exceptions related to regulatory and client requirements, MFS policies, and Internal Limits.
  • Reconcile and ensure accuracy of data and reporting for closed end funds and structured products.
  • Assess the usage, effectiveness and robustness of processes for areas of responsibility; recommend enhancements where needed to minimize risk to the organization.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist supervisors with the development and updating of procedures, maintaining metrics reports, and special projects as requested; assume additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement initiatives for each team's controls, reports, systems, and other tools to minimize risk to the organization and ensure timely and accurate processing in all areas of responsibility; work with members of GTIO and other business partners as needed to ensure completeness of business requirements and robustness of testing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 3 years of investment operations and/or compliance-related experience
  • Working knowledge of security types and financial transaction processing; familiarity with cash management, securities lending, and proxy voting a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (focus on Excel)
  • Ability to learn and master all inventory, accounting and trading systems
  • Ability to prioritize time-sensitive work for both teams, and consistently perform with attention to detail and multiple daily deadlines
  • Good business judgment and the ability to handle stressful situations with internal clients while maintaining a professional approach to problem solving and risk reduction
  • Superior analytical, organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills along with reliable decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Desire to provide exceptional client service to internal and external business partners
