Job Description BASIC PURPOSE :
The Managing Director of Equities in the Investment Solutions Group leads the development and articulation of MFS's house views and positions on Equities globally. He/she may lead a team that works closely with the investment department to conduct research, deliver in depth analysis, insight and thought leadership related to the global equity markets to MFS' clients and internal constituents including distribution and investments. The Managing Director will guide the team in researching, writing and publishing MFS's thoughts via white paper, web, conference presentations and responses to client inquiries. Additionally, the Managing Director will establish the overall direction and priorities, develop the research and technical capabilities to apply the research to developing solutions for clients. Using discretion and judgment, he/she will work side by side with our institutional, sub-advisory and retail relationship management and sales teams around the world to understand client challenges and issues.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Develop and implement a comprehensive research program related to all aspects and sub asset classes of the global equity markets. This includes the continuous development and maintenance of various capital markets dashboards and tracking of economic, political and market structures and forces and developing ongoing commentary, views and perspectives. Demonstrate a deep understanding of all relevant issues related to equity portfolio construction impacting client investment decisions, including governance, investment policy and implementation issues. Lead the development of MFS's equity thought leadership collateral to support an enhanced client engagement model by working closely with both client facing and investment management teams. This includes chairing meetings with investment team stakeholders to generate ideas, identifying and developing a perspective on investment topics that MFS's relationship management teams can bring to clients to build strategic partnerships. Develop and maintain deep subject matter expertise, be able to generate ideas independently and participate and present at conferences. Be able to network, research, analyze, construct models and developing thought leadership in chosen area of specialization. May lead or provide guidance to a team of technical experts that can conduct research and analysis related to equities. This team would also be required to interface extensively with the investment department and should therefore demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge related to all investment asset classes. Develop training tools, videos, white papers and discussion guides to enhance MFS's distribution expertise and dialog with clients. Performs additional duties as requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFA, MBA or other Masters' degree required.
  • Minimum 10 + years' experience in client facing roles and in delivering technical and non- technical content. Experience in one or more of the following is required: asset manager, OCIO, plan sponsor or investment consulting.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and comfort level with highly technical subject matter related to all asset classes, global capital markets and equity asset classes in particular. Technical skills in equity portfolio managing, portfolio construction is required.
  • Thorough understanding of investment management industry, client issues across retail and institutional channels.
  • Expertise with traditional asset classes is required and familiarity with alternatives is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong presentation experience required. Ability and willingness to create presentations, complex spreadsheet and discussion guides efficiently is required.
  • Ability to build and lead a highly qualified and technical team of investment experts.
  • Experience with some or all of the following tools is required: Factset, Optimization software, BARRA, Bloomberg, Morningstar. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and manage multiple tasks simultaneously within tight deadlines.
  • Superior analytical skills required.
