POSITION
We are currently seeking to recruit a Macroeconomic Analyst (Analyst) to join our Global Macro Strategy Group. The mission of the Global Macro Strategy Group is to provide a macroeconomic framework for investing, and more specifically to translate macroeconomic research into top-down, alpha-generating investment insights that benefit Wellington's client portfolios. The Macroeconomic Analyst will focus her/his research on a variety of countries with an aim to generate investment ideas for portfolios. As an active member of the Investment Platform, the Macroeconomic Analyst will provide inputs to a range of investment processes across the firm. The Analyst will be expected to provide themes and investment recommendations to Global Industry Analysts and Portfolio Managers across equity, fixed income, currency, multi-asset and alternatives.

The following essential skills are required for the role:
- Macroeconomic expertise - The Macroeconomic Analyst will have a deep understanding of the macro economy as well as political developments, governance trends and policies. The role will include macro analysis, forecasting and assessment of key factors impacting global economies. The ability to bring unique perspectives on both cyclical and structural factors is essential. Identifying key thematic trends in the economy is also important.
- Investment acumen and passion - Supporting the mission of Global Macro Strategy at Wellington, the Analyst will be focused on global financial markets and translate macroeconomic research into investable ideas that are applicable to all asset classes. The ideal candidate will initiate macro and targeted country research to generate investment ideas. Passion for investing will lead the Analyst to be a meaningful contributor to the strong macroeconomic dialogue and culture of the team and firm.
- Superior collaboration and communication skills - The successful candidate will enjoy being an individual contributor within the highly collaborative Global Macro Strategy team. The Macroeconomic Analyst will build strong, trusting relationships internally with colleagues. The ability to present macro views is critical, as is humility and a desire to address questions and learn from others; the Analyst must recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives. The ability to clearly communicate (both verbally and in writing) insightful and accurate views, and investment opinions, is important. The ideal candidate should be committed to understanding the very rich, complex set of investment strategies offered by Wellington, and to establishing strong partnerships with the Firm's community of sector specialists and portfolio managers.
A successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Five to seven years of experience in a macroeconomic area or a financial field.
- Demonstrable analytical skills and knowledge of economics and financial markets.
- Ability to think creatively and flexibly.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- High ethical standards.
- Knowledge of Bloomberg, Factset, Haver, Datastream, Programming is a plus. CFA/CAIA are welcome.
