Produce extensive in-house fundamental research utilizing a value based approach and careful assessment of risk to identify opportunities for superior risk-adjusted returns. While we will be focused on hiring the best athlete, this person will preferably have experience in the energy and E&P sectors.

The Senior Credit Research Analyst is responsible for covering one or more industries in the corporate markets. Work on corporate credits and makes recommendations on bonds across the capital structure (loans, secured, unsecured. preferred, convertibles). Conduct analysis and makes fundamental recommendations on covered names, new issues and secondary markets. Work closely with other analysts, sector teams and portfolio managers to lead the development of sector and asset class strategies. Mentor Research Analysts.

This position has the possibility of being located in either Boston, MA or Durham, NC.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute on the three pillars of Credit Research: Buy discipline, Surveillance, Sell discipline. Including:
    • Provide timely new issue recommendations
    • Provide timely issuer updates
    • Identify and forecast key drivers: competitiveness, barriers to entry, cyclical margin and cash flow dynamics
  • Collect, maintain and analyze statistical and quantitative data to support fundamental research to identify relative value relationships within capital structure and between companies within the same industry.
  • Identify and communicate drivers and relative value opportunities between Fixed Income Asset Classes.
  • Produce scenario analysis and identify key relative value drivers in related industries to secular trends in other industries, uncover “hidden assets” and understand the broader dynamic between industries within a global setting.
  • Analyze the interplay between macro-economic landscape, evolving industry dynamics, competitive positioning, sales and profitability to contribute to industry weight recommendations across portfolios.
  • Manage Analyst Coverage list and maintain strong working knowledge of multiple industries.
  • Write credit summaries based on research with buy/sell/hold recommendations.
  • Build and maintain company financial models to support fundamental research.
  • Analyze results, perform advanced sensitivity analysis, and consider valuation methodologies, recovery analysis and DCF.
  • Work with Analyst team to identify model outputs that generate and evaluate relevant research questions.
  • Provide relative value recommendations and Issuer positioning based on fundamental research.
  • Build and maintain company financial models to support fundamental research.
  • Interact with rating agencies, Wall Street analysts, and other independent sources to obtain external views on individual credits or industries.
  • Participate in developing and delivering on Team Goals, lead ad hoc team-based projects.
  • Mentor Analysts

Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of credit experience across multiple industries, including a minimum of 3 years of experience in High Yield.
  • Strongly prefer experience in Energy including Oil and Gas and Electric Utility.
  • Bachelor degree plus an MBA and/or CFA.
  • Strong analysis skills (analytical, quantitative, effective writing, and presentation skills).
  • Strong working knowledge of Capital Markets, Bond Math and Economic Business Cycles.
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple industries with the ability to identify, forecast and communicate key industry and company drivers: competitiveness, barriers to entry, cyclical margin and cash flow dynamics.
  • Strong working knowledge of Accounting Principles, Financial Statement Analysis and Financial Modeling.
  • Ability to quickly assess information and apply to the investment portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability for strong communication skills; clear, concise and credible to present Research Process to Clients, and Consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence asset class decision making in portfolios.
  • Excel skills.
  • Leadership skills to lead Team Projects and mentor analyst team.
  • Must be a self-starter, and willing to conduct travel as part of the investment research process.
