The Global Financial Institutions Team is comprised of seven investment professionals whose work is focused on investments in Financial Institutions, Real Estate Related and Securitization in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. The team has credit coverage for approximately C$20 billion in public and private bonds across the Manulife complex.

The Global Financial Institutions Team is looking for three analysts: two in Toronto and one in Boston.

The responsibilities and qualifications below apply to all three positions. Additionally, the position in Boston will have a partial focus on CMBS. One of the positions in Toronto will have a focus on bank, pension and asset backed securities. While the other Toronto position will have a focus of insurance and reinsurance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of the credit quality of existing portfolio by monitoring assigned credits on a regular basis, providing updates of any major credit events and completing annual credit reviews.
  • Assist on evaluating new investment proposals, through preparing investment proposals for transaction approval.
  • Follow legislation, regulatory changes, both nationally and globally to determine impact on the portfolio.
  • Develop, cultivate and maintain relationships with issuers, rating agencies and research analysts to broaden knowledge of designated companies and industries.
  • Work with peers to ensure consistency of rating rationales, financial data and spreadsheets.

Qualifications:

  • An MBA, B. Comm, BA Economics or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics or Economics preferred. CFA candidate, actuarial background or an accounting designation is desirable.
  • 3-5 Years of experience.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills along with an ability to think strategically.
  • A solid understanding of financial and accounting principles.
  • Attention to detail is a critical success factor in this position.
  • Solid knowledge of PC applications (e.g. Word and Excel) and ability to retrieve credit information from online sources.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Ability to process large amounts of information simultaneously and respond to enquiries and opportunities in a timely manner.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment that requires multi-tasking.
  • A self-starter that enjoys working collaboratively in a cross-border team environment.
  • An interest in the financial industry; knowledge of capital market is desirable.
