Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and Portfolio Manager, our client seeks an experienced equity research analyst covering the Healthcare sector with a particular focus on Biotech and Pharma to become an integral member of the investment team. The Healthcare Analyst will have a high-level of responsibility and be empowered to make a meaningful impact on the funds’ performance.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Analyze business trends, end markets, competitive positioning, and product cycles of company business models to assess the quality and durability of earnings growth
  • Perform due diligence of both existing and potential investments by weighing factors such as competitive advantage, clinical trial outcomes, financial risk, macro risk, and quality of management
  • Display equal comfort in analyzing industry, company, and financial drivers
  • Partner with the Portfolio Manager to develop alpha-generating investment ideas and contribute broadly to the portfolio management process
  • Collaborate with the investment team on investment ideas and thesis as well as on buy and sell recommendations

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of work experience that applies to picking stocks as an equity Analyst or Senior Analyst with a buy-side institutional investor or mutual fund. Additional corporate experience in consulting or in a relevant life sciences industry is a plus. Strong analytical skills including attention to detail, and understanding relevant financial, mathematical and accounting techniques. Proficiency in science and financial aspects of the biopharmaceutical sector is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to express ideas effectively. Also, the candidate will have:

  • 2-4 years of medical/clinical/pharmacological training or the appropriate experience in the pharma/medical/healthcare industry
  • Deep understanding of the capital markets, how the markets trade, and valuation methodology
  • Strong academic credentials in life sciences or a medical degree preferably combined with an MBA or CFA
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret scientific/academic papers and literature
  • Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities including financial modeling, industry and product analysis and report writing
  • Superior intellectual curiosity and independence of thought
  • Self-motivated, proactive, driven, and enthusiastic team player
  • A well-organized, rigorous, and systematic research approach to support and defend investment ideas
